Reviewing Your Medicare Supplement Plan
Best Time to Review

- Your Policy Renewal is in most cases the month you enrolled in your plan. This can be found on your ID card.
- Example- If your coverage was effective 7/1/2021, your policy renewal is likely every July.
- Medicare Supplement policies are not subject to the Annual Enrollment Period!

Premium Changes
- Medicare Supplement plans, like all insurance plans, have annual rate increases.
- Most policies have a rate increase once a year on your policy renewal.
- 45 days before your policy renewal, the insurance company will notify you of any premium changes.
- Unlike Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans, Medicare Supplement plans do not have an annual renewal process. Your Medicare Supplement plan will automatically renew as long as you continue to pay your premiums.

Benefit Changes
Additionally, unlike Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans, the benefits never change with Medicare Supplements. The coverage you enrolled in will remain the same each year.
The only “change” with your coverage will be the deductible and co-insurance amounts set by the government. View the most current deductibles and co-insurances here.

Underwriting Considerations
Medicare Supplement Plans have a 6 month Open Enrollment Period when you first enroll in Part B. During this time, you will be able to purchase ANY Medicare Supplement Plan with no medical underwriting.
After this 6 month period ends, making a change from one Medicare Supplement plan to another will require you to pass medical underwriting and be approved for the new policy. Certain health conditions can prevent you from being able to switch to a less expensive Medicare Supplement Plan.
Approximately 10 states have adapted special rules that allow their residents to make a change to their plan at certain times without having to answer health questions.
